If you’re running a new blog, such the one I am currently writing on now, or you just want some exposure and promotion for your blog, then one of the best method is to get a linkback from a popular blog, with content similar to yours. Apart from the evident reader awareness of your blog’s existence, you’ll rip some SEO benefits as well, as a linkback with an appropriate anchor text can help a great deal in your SERPS rankings. But how to get bloggers to link to you? What you should be asking is how do I let the respective bloggers know that my blog even exists? To answer that question I’ve built a few methods on how to network and socialize with other blogs, so all parties can benefit.
- E-mail similar bloggers. This is the most common and pretty much most effective method on self-publicizing a blog or website, but most people don’t really know how to effectively harness the technique and end up wasting their time writing the e-mail. If you contact a influential and busy blogger then he’ll more then certain receive tens if not hundreds of e-mail each day, making your e-mail stand out and as informative as possible can make the difference. The most common mistake most bloggers do when sending a e-mail is they spam and over-appreciate their content to much, as their too desperate for some free publicity. If you happened to write similar e-mails take the following steps to ensure you actually get some positive response back: Short concise e-mail subject, to-the-point and as non-flattering content as possible, use your real name (first and last name, and your position on the blog), actually offer some useful information, freebie or remarkable blog post to the receiving blogger. For a even more effective exposure I advise you introduce yourself, no link back to your blog or related websites, just in a few words say who you are and show your appreciation for his work through a simple thanks. Any webmaster appreciates a positive feedback, so your future e-mail will be more well seen.
- Commenting on other blogs. Find blogs that have similar content to yours and start commenting; don’t make 1-2 responses and then leave forever. You have to constantly comment each day, in a constructive manner (not ‘great post’ or something like that), you’ll eventually be noticed, visited and if it suits the webmasters tastes most probably get a link back.”But commenting on other blogs seem to take a lot of my time.” A common remark, so what you have to do to enssure a quick and productive commenting program is to make a schedule. Reserve 30-60 minutes of your time each day for commenting on other blogs, if you use firefox you can build a list of 10 of the best blogs in your field, bookmark them and then browse through each of them and find a suitable post for commenting.
- Social networking and bookmarking. This is less used, but I’ve seen some great results; what it implies is constant digging/stumbling/or other social bookmark votes of fellow blog posts. Webmasters usually check where they get traffic from and will notice you’re a active contributor to his blog, he will then most of the time add you as a friend on his digg or stumble account. You can start contacting him from there on.Most influential blogs have a Myspace/Facebook/YouTube or similar profiles on large networking websites, as it’s proven they can drive a respectable amount of free traffic. Take the time and add them as your friends on your profile, comment on their profiles and contribute as much as you can, they’ll do the same.
- Linkback. Add a blog you like or seeking a linkback of your own from, to your blogroll. Webmasters always check where their incoming links come from, so they’ll eventually stumble upon your blog, analyze it, and if they see something they like they’ll probably add you to their blogroll as well. Adding someone to your blogroll doesn’t cost you a penny or hurts your blog in anyway, but it can possibl help you further develop and publicize it.
- IM contacting. Some bloggers list their instant messaging account, like YM/MSN/AIM/ICQ etc, on their contact page. This is a huge advantage as you can live chat with other bloggers, saving some time in the meanwhile. Remember to introduce yourself when sending out a friend request, state your interests, organization and name from the start in a summarized manner, like you would do in a really short e-mail, or else the person you are trying to contact might block you.
These are about the 5 most important tips you could use to increase your blog awareness, please share other methods, if know any, by commenting.
