I just received a new automated e-mail from digg.com in which I read that there where some new important features developed, especially in the user side. I was pretty surprised when I saw what exactly the actual changes where.
Lots of new changes coming to Digg! We’re excited to introduce you to the new Digg Profiles. With over fifty new features, we’ve completely revamped our profiles from the ground up - making it easy for you to share your favorite Digg stories with friends. If you’d like to see them in action, visit Digg or get a walk through of some of the new features in this video.
The changes made to user profiles have made the portal more user friendly a opened the road for a more networking focused approach. Basically almost all the features you could implement at your MySpace or Facebook profile are available at your digg profile as well. Here are a few more important changes that were made, out of the total fifty plus:
- Shouts. You can now send messages with stories you’d like to share with your friends or contacts very easily and track them as well. It’s something like the “Sent to” feature in stumbleupon and i find it to be a great feature for webmasters as we can share diggs more easily.
- Favorites. If you digg a story you can now favorite it, so that it appears sort of a feature on your profile. It’s a easier way to digg through more important posts or keep track of remarkable blogs/websites.
- The Networking features. High resolution feature photograph, personal data (date of birth, location, age bla bla), personal photos you can upload (nice one), favorite links and a few miscellaneous other features that you can discover by exploring the new environment.
- Better tracking. In addition to the latest diggs we’ve all been used to seen when viewing someone profile you can now see see his recent favorites, recent shouts, recent friends activity etc.
- E-mail notifiers. When someone ads you as a friend, comments on a story you’ve submitted, or a story of yours becomes a popular you can now choose to receive e-mail notifications. It’s a great feature if you want to be up to date with your latest diggs.
- Friends search. You can enter your friends e-mail addresses and find their profile page easily now. If you don’t want people to find you via your e-mail address you can disable that option at your privacy settings.
This big update is part of a long string of great soon to be implemented features this year. Don’t ask me what they are, only the digg staff know it.
