A lot of blogs I’ve been reading lately and people from the online industry alike, with whom I’ve had the chance of interacting, believe twitter is today’s hot, new thing - and rightfully so. You only need a few minutes with it to realize it’s pure genius! It’s simple, effective and easy to use. Yes, the hype can sometimes be exhausting, since it’s really hard finding a blog these days without having at least one twitter related post in their past month archives, but even with all this in mind, the hype is justified.
What I want to post about today is not an ode to twitter, though, praising and marveling how great twitter is, twitter here and twitter there - no. What I do want to talk about today is the miss conception that twitter has made blogging obsolete, unfashionable or even unpractical (I saw someone say this on twitter some time ago, so you can imagine).

Dear John Toots (not!)
I am exhausted ever more now just reading your post. But I feels I must persevere with this Twotter thing. Whoops. (too tired from blogging even to correct typo.)
In fact, I think I may just have Stumbled Upon you, my new Number One Twittering Guru, and will look no further, since I do intend to keep on blogging until I die, and doing it “properly” might be a wise choice. And I guess being a twit too. So look for my future stalkings here. I’m serious. I’ve tinkered a bit with Twitter, but I need to Get Serious with in, in this, my on-going mission to Take Over The Blogging World, a world where the telephone was not just a passing phase.
And boy, is those 2 guys chubby in that first pic.

@Jannie That’s the spirit, Jannie! Blogging won’t die off anytime soon, and props for dwelling deeper into twitter. Yeah, chubby fellows right? Which one is the blog and which one is twitter?

Tibi, I think something will completely replace something else is just trendy. Like Plurk will be the death of Twitter. Twitter will be the death of blogging, and so on. There’s enough room for several media, if you get a glimpse of each one’s specificity and use it properly. I blog and tweet and I love doing both. And as you’ve shown here, there are dozens of reasons why the two should go together.

Great post, Tibi!
I like the way you really dig in to a topic. You are one of the few blogs I read without fail.
cheers

@Alina: well said
@Mary: thank you, Mary. I’m really flattered.

I’d say the Twitting guy, tweeting I guess, is wearing the glasses. The other guy looks like more of an established force to be reckoned with — the blogger.
I think Twitter is great for those who maybe don’t want to get too deeply into writing.
See - told you I’d be stalking you!
Jul 9th, 2009 at 10:13 am
@Jannie As long as you’re not one of those serial killer types, I don’t mind at all :). Oh and yeah, I’d go with the glasses guy for twitter too. Kinda geeky, but still very badass!

Wow wow wow! What a super-duper long and detailed post! I guess that’s your blog’s strength, despite your low post frequency.
My views are the same as yours, twitter will never replace blogging, but they are meant to complement one another.
Thanks for the comprehensive and detailed list of tips!

Must say you has just told me a great story about Twitter. Twitter has things that other social media have not and these make it become the most place for bloggers and all people now to join, to share, to engage.

Very nice thought provoking post.
I’m very much in the corner that Twitter and blogging are just made for each other. Indeed, just about all the interesting blogs I read, I found as a direct result of Twitter and a lot of the traffic for my own blog is generated there as well.
Blog and Twitter are both excellent tools to get inspiration and to get ideas out of ones head and into readable media.
Cheers!
David

I am trying to figure out how best to use twitter. My interpretation of the platform so far has been three-fold:
First, I were to say something real quick about myself or my blog today, what would it be?
Second, what is consuming me now, and how can I share in the fewest words possible?
Third, but not least, what is consuming other tweeters? [This is my way of learning or joining the conversation.]
The blog, on the other hand, provides the details of the above points. [Just replace tweeters with bloggers.]

Very thought provoking post. I also think that without a simple using of twitter how can a blogger can write or communicate easily.

Hi everyone,
I’ve been reading lately and people from the online industry alike, with whom I’ve had the chance of interacting, believe twitter is today’s hot, new thing - and rightfully so. Twitter has helping many ways to build the business in all over the world..
Twitter is a back bone of advertisement for all types of business.
Nice post keep up your good work

Your personal network could contain all those users who have the same line of interests or profession as you. Through out the world, millions of users are engaged in the activity on such websites.

much valuable information on popular blogs, tips and secrets of success, but so difficult when applied, the result is not too exciting. struggle to achieve success not as easy as imagined

i do not agree with you that twitter has made blog obsolete, twitter is just a social medium, so i think blog should have their living room, especially the high quality blogs
Dec 30th, 2010 at 11:55 am
I have been blogging for quite some time also, and I must agree with this. Blogging is no where near populair as it was some years ago.
I do hope it returns, i do hope so..

Just came across this post. I now have the luxury of hindsight, and I still agree with your post. Although, for a part time blogger (full-time day job and family), Twitter is an added layer I can’t keep up with. I struggle with my website and answering questions already. I am off to read your 80/20 rule (I believe it is called Paredo’s rule) next. Thank you and I guess I would like to ask, if you are still responding to this site, why you stopped. Good articles. Thanks,

I have a twitter account for my business (new to working for myself) and have also started to write a blog, although I am not sure if anyone has actually seen it. How valuable are blogs and twitter? I have been trying to gauge exactly what the difference could be if used correctly, as at the moment I suppose it is little more than a link for me. Need to sort this out.

It is truly hard to pass along quality content in the limited space allowed in a tweet. The relationships and credibility need to be established in some other media besides short snippets. Twitter is a good medium for creating a truly interactive relationship with readers/customers, but I think there needs to be a more in-depth medium as well.
